Iceland Embassy in Geneva

Embassy of Iceland in Geneva, Switzerland

Overview

The Permanent Mission and Embassy of Iceland in Geneva is a dual-hat mission serving as both Iceland's bilateral embassy to Switzerland and its permanent representation to the United Nations Office at Geneva, the World Trade Organization, and other international organizations headquartered in Geneva. The mission is headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mr. Einar Gunnarsson. Geneva's concentration of international organizations makes it a key post for Iceland's multilateral engagement — the mission covers the UN Human Rights Council, the WTO, WIPO, WHO, and the International Red Cross among others. Iceland and Switzerland are fellow EFTA members and EEA/Schengen partners. Honorary consulates in Bern and Zürich provide local contact points elsewhere in Switzerland.

Visa Services

Iceland is a Schengen and EEA member. Swiss citizens travel to Iceland freely under EEA freedom of movement with no time limit. For nationals of countries requiring a Schengen visa, applications are coordinated through the mission. Standard Schengen documentation applies.

Consular Services

The mission provides passport services, identity document processing, civil registrations, notarial services, and emergency consular assistance for Icelandic nationals in Switzerland.

Service Area

The mission covers the entire Swiss Confederation. Honorary consulates in Bern (Mr. Nicolas R.A. Koechlin) and Zürich (Mr. Ingmar J.M. Snijders, Honorary Consul General) provide local first-line contact.

Appointment Information

The mission is open Monday to Friday 09:00–16:00. Appointments for consular services are recommended. Contact by phone (+41 22 716 1700) or email (geneva@mfa.is).
