Overview
The Honorary Consulate of Iceland in St. John's serves as a local contact point for Icelandic citizens in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Honorary Consul is Mr. Robert John Hickey. Newfoundland has deep historical ties to Iceland through the North Atlantic — Leif Eriksson's Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in northern Newfoundland (c. 1000 AD) represents the earliest European presence in North America. The consulate can authenticate documents and provide initial guidance but refers passport, visa, and complex consular matters to the Embassy of Iceland in Ottawa.
Service Area
The consulate covers Newfoundland and Labrador. For full consular services, contact the Embassy of Iceland in Ottawa (+1 613 482 1944, ottawa@mfa.is).
