Overview
The Honorary Consulate of Iceland in Vienna covers eastern and southern Austria and serves as a local contact point for Icelandic citizens and for Austrian residents with consular queries related to Iceland. The Honorary Consul is Mr. Ing. Alfred Schubrig, in post since 2006, assisted by Honorary Vice-Consul Mrs. Ing. Mag. Elisabeth Schubrig. The Embassy of Iceland in Vienna (Naglergasse 2/3/8, 1010 Wien) is Iceland's embassy in Austria and handles passports, visas, and all matters beyond honorary-consular competence. The honorary consulate shares the same building complex as the embassy. As an EEA and Schengen member, Iceland participates in the European single market and freedom of movement: Icelandic citizens can live and work in Austria without a visa, and Austrian citizens enter Iceland visa-free for any purpose and duration under EEA rules. The consulate can authenticate documents, provide first-line emergency assistance, and connect callers with the embassy.
Service Area
The Vienna honorary consulate covers Lower Austria (Niederösterreich), Burgenland, Styria (Steiermark), and Carinthia (Kärnten). Residents of Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg are served by the Honorary Consulate General in Salzburg. For passports, visas, and full consular services, both offices refer to the Embassy of Iceland in Vienna.
