German Honorary Consul in Balzers

Consulate of Germany in Balzers, Liechtenstein

Overview

The Honorary Consul of Germany in Balzers is the only German official presence physically located within Liechtenstein. The consulate is held by Dr. Martin Meyer, whose office sits in Balzers at the southern tip of the principality. Germany does not maintain a full embassy in Liechtenstein; the German Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, is the competent mission for all substantive diplomatic and consular matters. The Honorary Consul in Balzers serves as a local relay for limited, non-complex assistance — most useful for German citizens who need emergency support or on-the-spot document help without travelling to Bern.

Consular Services

Services are limited to those within the scope of an honorary consulate: issuing life certificates (Lebensbescheinigungen), authenticating signatures, and providing initial assistance in emergency situations. The Honorary Consul cannot issue or extend passports, process visa applications, or handle matters that require a career officer. For all substantive consular services — passports, notarial acts, emergency travel documents, welfare cases — German citizens in Liechtenstein should contact the German Embassy in Bern directly.

Service Area

The Principality of Liechtenstein. All consular matters beyond the Honorary Consul's limited mandate are handled by the German Embassy in Bern.

Appointment Information

Contact the Honorary Consul by phone or email to arrange an appointment before visiting. Walk-in visits are not accepted.
